IWC FAQ
The Industrial Welfare Commission regulates wages, hours and working conditions in California. The IWC wage orders are required postings to be displayed by all employers in California in an area where they can be easily viewed by all employees. This is a separate posting requirement from other regulated California, Federal, City and County postings*.
Employers are required under State and Federal labor laws to display notices pertaining to the rights of their employees. In the State of California, Employers are required to post the appropriate IWC poster(s). IWC posters are specific to a business or industry. More than one may apply depending on the industry(s) served. Failure to display a required notice can result in hefty fines or employee lawsuits.
The recent update to the IWC Poster now includes the new 2024 California Minimum Wage. This update is considered mandatory, necessitating employers to refresh their current poster by replacing it with the newly updated notice. If your poster does not include the January 2024 minimum wage information, we recommend you update your poster.
The IWC provides information on changing rooms, lockers, seats for employees, room temperature, and elevators. It also gives details about the penalties for underpaying employees, which typically means you haven't paid overtime wages that were due the employee.
