First Aid Kits

Class A & Class B First Aid Kits

What is ANSI Z308.1?

ANSI (American National Standards Institute (ANSI) recently updated standard Z308.1-2015, which establishes the minimum performance requirements for first aid kits and their supplies. The standard dictates the assortment of items and the quantity of each item based on the anticipated number of users the first aid kit is designed for. It also takes into account the danger level of the workplace for which the first aid kit is designed.

What changed with Z308.1-2015?

The three major changes to ANSI Z308.1-2015 are:

  • 1. The introduction of two new classes of first aid kit. The Class A kits include contents designed for a regular workplace which might experience common workplace injuries. The Class B kit is designed to suit a broader range of more complex and high-risk work environments.
  • 2. The contents for the new first aid kits have been changed.
  • 3. The quantity of each item within the new classes of first aid kit have been updated.

What is the effective date for the new revised ANSI Standard?

The new ANSI Z308.1-2015 becomes effective June 1st, 2016. We advise all businesses to begin using the new Class A and B kits by this date.
